There was a guy on the morning news last week who was saying just that Jon. That we should all give up our pets because they are bad for the environment.

Well, cats are certainly bad for birds.

But if we follow that guy's line of thinking, humans are bad for the environment so should we all top ourselves to save the planet? Clearly his argument falls down here.

Yes totally. He was trying to say that because pets (dogs really) use poo bags that they are bad for the planet because of the plastic usage. And all the packaging that pet foods come in.
He wasn’t on the show for long!

but if we had birth controll, just one child per person it would reduse the poperlaction.it would reduce the nead of housing hospital beds.ect but it would kill manafacrting. when we went to ware it would reduce the poperlaction but its a bit mesy.

but seriousely ,

the plant has two many humuns all ready causing many problems, if we went tottaly green vegan ect we would still have two many humans.

A study in 2008 claimed 2.48 billion tons of fish worldwide for the cat food industry. Im sure the dog food industry would be equally high, if not higher.

My point wasn't so much on the resources used but more towards how we have manipulated breeds to suit what many people use as a fashion statement for a pet. Its not just our pets but every farmed animal has been bred to produce more for us. How far will the fluffy huggers take this ?

I hear you Jon. I too have an issue with breeders who selectively breed for animal characteristics that are fasionable rather than for the welfare of the breed or the individual dogs. Pugs and French Bulldogs are a the classic case here, where the snub nose causes breathing problems for the dogs. Chihuahuas are another - the skull volume has been bred smaller and smaller and now the eyes no longer fit comfortably in their sockets. And as for the bull terrier breeds that are selectively bred for their fighting ability... 🤬

Yes but should we even be allowed to have any pets if animals if animal rights are fully brought into play. The pets live by our rule and not their own free choice (which might cause them mental stress, pain!!!).

I got into a discussion with a raving fluffy hugger after she describes how she kills spiders in her house with spray chemicals. Apparently its fine to spray chemicals at insects but not shoot an introduced destructive feral pest and use it as food.

Im sure you guys saw this story of the vegans who fed their dogs a vegan diet and have now been prosecuted https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9548971/Queensland-couple-fed-puppies-VEGAN-diet-banned-owning-pets.html

Trouble with these extremists is they are not open to conversation and reasoning. I like to hear both sides of an argument and see it from both sides. If we did totally move over to the fluffy way of thinking we would soon be overrun by rats, mice and other feral pests and there would be no tofu left after the insects munched their way through farmed crops. Even the vegetarian or vegan diet greatly impacts on wildlife.
