Boat lost off Penarth

A mate who is on facebook (I'm not) said it was reported a 25ft fishing boat got into difficulty off Lavernock and sank last Saturday

Thankfully all 4 were picked up safely, not sure if they were picked up out of the water, or taken off the boat

Any of the Welsh crew heard about this ?

Quite a big tide Saturday and the rip around that point can be nasty

Yes they were, just saw a video of it on twitter, 23ft with outboard, and all got off the boat safely before it sank

Lot of water in the bow, by the look of it

Looks a bit like that cuddy/wheelhouse thing was a DIY job which could have shifted the CoG and made the boat bow-heavy to start with too.

Just look how close to the rocky fore shore the boat is.

I would suggest they struck a rock and holed the bow or the keel..............

It’s not that rocky there.

Its an area known as the Ranny. Wind against tide means choppy conditions and it’s easy to hit sandbanks etc which is what I suspect has happened…

@jonnyswamp rumour has it they were based out of Cardiff Marina or the smaller one up river…

msin thing is they were ok!

They were not the only ones to get into trouble on the weekend….

This the main entrance channel to Cardiff. Far too many people cut the corner off… this is why you don’t do it 🙄
