Popular Post JonC
I had a later start today than I planned so I didn’t go far, about half hour to the right of the chart to a bar known as The Bench Head, which is between Mersey island and st Osyth at the entrance to the river colne. I had spoken to some commercial lads in the marina and they said there was very little about, they were busy cutting up dogfish for pot bait to catch welks. I had a half decent Raja Clavata within about 10 minutes of anchoring which gave me the false hope that I was going to have a busy day.It sort of tailed off after that with just a few whiting coming over the side. I only had frozen squid and cuttlefish for bait today so no dabs. Pot noodle of the day is in the photos below. thejollysinker
there is a ..let's call it a theory, that Dabs like a stinking squid bait, refreeze as many times as you like apparently... I also know that if you bash squid with a steak hammer it releases much more scent which would hopefully help to increase your catch rate on the Thornies and possibly the Dabs? might be worth a try? Meanwhile on the south coast Dabs have become a real rarity which is a shame because they taste so nice 🙂 Andy135, Saintly Fish and JonC
