Fantastic, getting more than us.The bluefin pushed too far offshore at our part of the coast, some never got a crack at them. Unfortunately they were in range of the foreign long liners though.

Was a bit better today… another 3 in 2 hours, rest of time on sharks, 10 blues to 100lb… bit of a special day

700-800lb…. Better pics to follow, 18 hour day, got to get to work for 8am tomorrow…. The power of skittles and red bull keeping me going at the moment 😂

 

(all released as in the water next to boat as I didn’t have the phone number for John Smith and I don’t think his cans were big enough 😂)

Snapped the rod after 30 mins, so the lucky angler kept going on tod and got it to the boat…

Was that a bit of high sticking or just a poor quality rod, bent butt rods make it hard for clients to high stick.  You would think the reels drag setting would stop any failure of the rod unless it was either of what I mention. Lucky it was an acid wrap or the line could of most likely broke where the rod had on the rough edge, which may of ended up with the fish dragging the teaser bar bar and line. 
Are you not using circles on the sharks, or did this one get a circle hooked deep somehow. 
Incredible to see watts on offer back there in terms of fishing.

No high sticking, I think the blank must of taken a knock at somepoint. 
 

Totally agree on the bent butt, easier on angler too…

The other 2 were a lot smaller so it’s amazing the different classes of fish that are running at the moment. Hopefully they hang around for the weekend…

8 blues to 100lb, then trolled for 10 mins and tuna on, about 600lb. Only had time to get 2 rods out…. Was hoping to troll deadbaits but no, didn’t get time. Was a 45min scrap on that one so ran out of time to get more as customer needed to get home to pick up his wife 🫣🫣🫣

Seems we are getting a different class of fish in different areas. This lot would be perfect for popping… maybe next year I’ll get a popping set up to try… 🤔 

@JDP I may need your advice as resident blue water expert on a set up that doesn’t break the bank!

Less than half the price of a Stella though, this style of fishing is expensive. Its also more addictive and fun than using the big heavy gear.

Yep…. 
 

Problem is not everyone can cope with it… Even on heavy gear I’ve had a lot of guys totally taken aback at the speed and power of these fish! 
 

Starting to locate the smaller ones so if that’s the case I’ll be looking to have a popping set up on board to keep the options open for the more experienced angler 🙂

Yes, it's not the sort of gear to hand to people who aren't used to fish ripping line at 60kh +. Also many European anglers have the habit of high sticking rods, which is what most of us were brought up seeing on the front of angling magazines. High sticking is ok on most species over there as they don't push tackle to the limits so much but 15kg + drag settings and having to catch up on fish quickly with the boat isn't something normally done even on decent sized sharks. 

The bluefin here are sitting some 100 miles offshore unfortunately at my location, with very few coming closer to shore for us so far this season, however one longliner brought over 200 bluefin in yesterday locally, so they are in good numbers. 1200km south of me the tuna have been very close to shore with many small trailer boats getting fish of 100kg+ daily.
