Popular Post jonnyswamp Posted October 13, 2024 Popular Post Posted October 13, 2024 Myself and 2 others jumped on a wrecking trip out of Brixham on "Spot on" as fillers on Friday Left the marina at 7am and stopped off at Berry Head for bait where we picked up plenty of joey Mackerel and some squid Once the livebait tank was full we headed out to the first wreck of the day, which was barren On to the next and this was a different story, plenty of Bass and some Pollock on both livebait and soft plastics Nothing huge, Bass and Pollock to around 6/7lb Drifts were a bit shit as the wind was stronger than the tide and we were getting pushed all over I took my slow jig gear thinking the small tide would be ideal, but as we were kiting with 12 oz leads I left that rod alone and stayed on the 12lb gear We could see isolated storms all around us and it was only a matter of time until one hit us, it did at 11.30 until 12 And By Christ it pissed down, then cleared for the rest of the day Next wreck was the tackle graveyard that is the Murray (?spelling) this was also productive with Bass and Pollock and also a few squid to the guys with squid jigs on Again nothing huge with these fish being of the same sort of stamp, I left a decent amount of tackle on this wreck The last wreck was further West and threw up some better fish, along with the 6/7 lbers The best Pollock was around 15/16lb and the biggest Bass was probably 8/9lb No pictures, but the skipper took a few, so they may be posted up somewhere on the net Stopped off at Berry Head on the way back in for some more squid and mackerel I used this time to gut and fillet my fish, something I don't look forward to when I get home as I'm lazy and usually end up giving most of it away Got off the boat at 6.45pm, the best part of 12 hrs fishing, was supposed to be a 9/10 hr trip If you're after value for money and a skipper who goes the extra mile to find the fish, you won't go wrong with "Spot on" Dicky, mick, Malc and 4 others 7 Quote

About 3 miles south is the Gateway and that is always worth a visit. jonnyswamp 1 Quote
