mike farrants Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 had a few hours and tide/conditions looked favourable - so i headed out on Halloween to bag a spooky squid or two. got to the mark around 6.30pm to find one other guy there who had just caught his first. water was very dirty, and quite weedy - not ideal - so the pink glow jigs from Cweights went on. I took 2 rods - one float with a single squid jig underneath, the other with a jig straight through for casting and retrieving or 'Eging'. set up the float one first, charged the jig with a UV torch and cast out - let the float do the work bobbing about with the jig about 6-7ft underneath. set up the 2nd rod and only had a few casts before i saw the float go under - it usually just moves off rather than going under so know i might have a decent squid on. sure enough - first squid bagged in the first 10 mins. a chunky 26cm mantle! it then got a bit quiet for me - others came in slowly - but just before going home i saw the float move off to the right, crossing in front of where i was casting - grabbed the float rod and bagged the 2nd - another biggun around 25cm. a fun evening and more bait for the freezer! Malc Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 I must give it a try here! Do you keep the bigger ones for bait and smaller for eating? Quote
