ukspearo Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 Anyone use this for helping to desalt their outboard at the end of the year? the engine isn’t clogged or blocked or anything, it’s just a precautionary flush to remove salt build up and inhibit corrosion over winter if you do use it, is it any good ? I’ve got a query about the instructions, it says to flush with engine cold, but then the flush is bypassing most of the engine block because the thermostat is closed. Did you remove the stat and then flush ? any help much appreciated! thanks ben Quote

That's all I do once a year with my 5hp tender motor. If the engine is used regularly then a build up should occur, that would normally happen if it's left for prolonged periods. This obviously not guaranteed care advise, just what I do. Quote
ukspearo Posted November 3, 2024 Author Posted November 3, 2024 It’s been very thoroughly run in fresh water but nonetheless when you pull the internal anodes or thermostat you still find salty gunk around them …… if that’s there , it’ll be building up elsewhere and eventually clog some channel in the head ! JonC Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 I hear good things about using Sea Foam. It’s some sort of fuel additive though I have no experience of using it on myself. daio web 1 Quote
willyhookit Posted November 5, 2024 Posted November 5, 2024 by far the best engine flush is ( Salt off ) made by starbright next choice would be ( Salt Away ) never used Blue thru myself i made up a Deep clean engine flush using a pond pump that connects to the flush port the pump needs to go into a large bucket and be stood 2 inch off the bottom so as not to pick up any crap thats been flushed out the bucket needs to large enough the collect the water so it recirculates this can be left for over an hour or more it works at a little higher water pressure than the STD water pump fitted to your out board Engine so really get into the hard to flush places in your engines water passages for my aux engine ive made a flush bag ( Dave lewis ) did a review in the sea angler mag as flush muffs dont fit onto most AUX engines and if your local water pressure it not that strong you might as well p-ss into the flush port tight lines Alain Quote
JDP Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 Ive been using salt-away for around 25yrs now which keeps my engine internals looking like new as well as my trailer etc. Ive never seen any comparison testing which has proven salt off or any other brand to be the best so perhaps willyhookit could share the link where he go his info from on that one. It seems to me there are so many copies but having tried a few other brands, I soon went back to salt away as the two others I tried stained my boat and hands blue. JonC and Odyssey 1 1 Quote
