mike farrants Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 finished work on Monday and the conditions were too nice not to try for a squid or two - light winds from the east meant the piers might be blown out - but Chesil cove would be sheltered, more importantly as the wind had been strong from the east over the weekend - water clarity would be better at chesil cove too - and to top it off - i've never caught a squid off an open beach before (only piers/walls) - so off I went after sunset. got to the beach armed with one spinning rod and a box of assorted glow lures. couple of casts in I hook up my first squid - happy days this one fell to a DTD weak fish jig in mackerel pattern. the next hr was fairly quite with just 2 more one falling to a trusted Cweights glow jig in Red the other to my new Major craft purple glow / gold pink after a quiet hour - i decided to pack up at 8pm - at 8.10 i went for one last cast with the DTD Weak fish again and bang - had a hit - stopped winding - and BANG - huge hit off a massive 28cm squid - the biggest of the night to make it 4 and a shore PB great fun - if you've never done it - i seriously recommend giving it a go -great sport, good eating if you like squid - if not free bait - I have half a freezer jammed full now and haven't bought squid for 3 years now - and likely wont need to ever again! go on give it a go - what's the worst that could happen (apart form getting inked in the face) 🦑 Maverick, Malc, Saintly Fish and 1 other 3 1 Quote
