mike farrants Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Sunday saw the last comp of the 2024 league - after the last 2 were cancelled due to wind it was nice to be back in the comp!. we tried a new strategy this time which saw us fish closer in marks to avoid wasted time travelling - and it paid off - more fishing less travelling.... Tim won most points and I won most species! £40 each. we started the day going for the small stuff - ticking off our wrasse, pout and pollock. Then we went no more than 2 miles off onto the mud/shingle in the bay - and found bream, Dogs, Eels, Scad and more. having had no rays we moved another mile out into a bit more tide and found the rays - i had a couple of lovely spotted rays and a couple of Thornies, plus we topped up our count on bream, dogs and eels. every time we put a mackerel head down it was getting hit by cuttle which would come all the way to the surface before letting go, and at one point Tim had his bream snatched by a massive squid that had followed it to the surface! surprisingly no smoothies, Whiting, or gurnards which you can get there. back at the club - people were impressed at our result given we had travelled little more that 6 miles all in - vs their 20,30,50 mile trips! just proves sometimes you drive over perfectly good fishing! a lovely day afloat - and quite warm in the brief bit of sunshine we had! jonnyswamp Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Well done both I agree with the "driving over fish to get to fish" statement We all do it though, no doubt Quote
