daio web Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 hi guys and girls looking for a thermal suit 2 piece i have a few flotation suits but i find them to bulkey and end up stripping them of needs to be able to move freeley in it any help would be great read all the reviews on them still confused 👍 Quote
JDP Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 (edited) I find the floatation suits are good if you don't need to move about to much but if you do, they get pretty hot and don't allow condensation to escape very easily. I start of with a base layer of merino wool thermals, then several layers of fleece before a light breathable waterproof jacket. Goretex used to be popular for the outer layer but these days there are several other similar materials which aren't so expensive. Im finding that Im doing more alpine trips lately where sleeping out on mountains for a few days at a time in snow and ice are quite appealing to me. With alpine hunting and trout fishing being so popular here we have some pretty decent cold weather clothing available. Edited November 11, 2024 by JDP daio web 1 Quote

Far better quality than the fishing manufacture’s offerings. I personally prefer a breathable bib and brace and jacket with warm layers underneath that can be added or removed rather than one thick coat which is usually too warm and bulky. ‘Wetsuit outlet’ based in Southend on sea are usually the best price, they have a massive amount of stock and offer a good mail order service. We buy nearly all of our wetsuits and dry suits from them. Most of the body’s heat is lost through the extremities,(90%) so decent hat and well fitting boots are essential. Tight clothing cuts off circulation. daio web, JDP and captin slows old outlaw 1 2 Quote

Tight clothing cuts off circulation. I was recently looking at some of those brands and found I could buy them cheaper buying from the UK, even with postage. Totally agree they are better than the fishing clothing on offer and also last well. daio web 1 Quote

We used to buy stuff from there when working in Norway in the winter. JDP 1 Quote

I did use to go to one of their store in Wales when I lived there, they had some very good gear, some I still own now. daio web 1 Quote
Saintly Fish Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 I just wear a few thinner layers. Then a waterproof/windproof coat with leggings. Then you can strip layers as you want! daio web 1 Quote
Malc Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 I like multiple layers and mostly natural fibre until the outer layer. I have either an ex RN/MOD goretex unpadded jacket or an imax insulted jacket Quote

jonnyswamp Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 (edited) I've got the Imax bib and brace/smock combo (quilted) which is great if it's just cold as it isn't waterproof and the Vass 175 winter bib and brace/smock which is waterproof and lined If I could only have 1, it would be the Vass, best of both worlds Although I wear the Imax more as I don't tend to go out if it's raining unless I'm booked on a charter trip Got the Vass kit from Gary Evans in Newport, but can't remember where I got the Imax suit from EDIT The Imax was also from Gary Evans, takes the guess work out of internet shopping and they usually price match Edited November 14, 2024 by jonnyswamp memory returned Quote
