mike farrants Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Didn't get out hardly at all in Dec - so was keen to fit one last trip of 2024 in. Had the inlaws over for the weekend and the forecast looked good - So Me & Phil met Tim and Jason on Tim's boat for the usual trip out around Portland harbour for bait, then off to an inshore mixed ground mark. Forecast was no wind all day - flat calm, small tides, plan was to keep it inshore as the days are so short - less time travelling = more time fishing We left the marina before sunrise (although we didn't see the sun all day), and headed to portlands north entrance - feathers, sabikis, and Squid jigs produced nothing, so we moved to the south entrance, and got the same. nothing not wanting to waste time bait fishing we pushed on to our mark a couple of miles out on mixed ground - mostly sand and gravel - armed with frozen squid and mackerel, hoping for rays and whiting (and whatever else we can tempt) Phil and Jason went with big baits and had a steady run of Dogs, Eels and Phil had the only Ray of the day - a Thorny. Me and Tim went with small baits and had a steady stream of Black bream, Poor cod, dogs, I had the only small whiting of the day and Tim pulled up the catch of the day - a beautiful Butterfly Blenny - a stunning fish - with a hell of an attitude - kept trying to bite Tim! not many photo worthy fish, but a lovely glassy day to be afloat! Finished off with a couple of Ales in the Local here's to a good 2025! happy new year all! Dicky, GPSguru, Josh and 1 other 4 Quote
