It’s been a busy year for the boat fishing for me, despite the less than perfect weather it probably been the best year so far - much slower from the shore but an epic Squid run from Sept to Nov kept my evenings busy.

32 trips out in both boats Seadog and pugwash, great company, good banter, some peace and quiet too to re-set the mind, and of course plenty of fish – the weather kept us inshore most of the the year with only a handful of trips to the Shambles and even less round the west side of the Bill.

Highlights have to be the Big Bass I had on the shambles in June – a PB at 10lb, Turbot are always welcome, as are gurnards and bull huss. Also catching my fist few fish on soft plastics off of Portland Bill – great fun! It was great seeing my girlfriend catch her first few fish as she’s always been very anti fish - i wouldn't say shes converted, but she is proud of herself for giving it a go and not throwing the rod in the sea.

And the squid run was immense this year – plenty of squid rings and bait for the coming year.

Boats came out together in May, Tims was turned around in a weekend – fresh antifoul and new anodes and Seadog was back in – mine however needed a new Cutlass bearing – meaning she stayed dry for a few weeks longer than planned while we sorted that.
