Well done Terry, it is nice to see a SPJ specialist in the UK, as it will save a lot of us importing direct from Japan and/or China.

SPJ is getting bigger each year and taking off much better than LRF ever did. I know a few businesses that invested heavily in LRF and got their fingers burnt, but with SPJ I think you are onto a winner, as it is similar to traditional 'gilling' but produces a better stamp of fish, is more sporting, and you tend to catch more because you can stay in the kill zone for longer.

Already we have a few charter boats that specialize in SPJ, but are not quite exclusively SPJ. A local charter here that is heavily into SPJ  is 'Silver Halo' run by Matt Forester.

I wish you all very best, and will certainly point my charter skipper customers who ask about SPJ in your direction ............

Matt also catches  big Tuna when shark fishing at 6 miles out ! 🙄🤣

Yes they do, to a degree, but not nearly as well as a rod built for the job.

You can get a reasonable jig action with a 6 -12, 8.5 - 15, or light spinning rod, however, you enter a different world with a dedicated jigging rod. Also, you will find it extremely hard work and very tiring.

You also need a reel which is small with a high(ish) rear ratio.

Hard work?

Hmm I’ll let Emma do that.... she can catch tea and bait. I’ll drive boat and catch sharks 🤣🤣🤣

Yes I am well aware of Matt and Silver Halo as I recommend him to  guys who want to learn SPJ done properly.

I helped him a lot with the right tackle in the early days and we still work together now, it seems to work nicely.
