Ok I’m lost in this colour thing.
At least you have a backup compass as well now if things get rough.

And sails if the motor fails. Geoff.

So how far past dock head did you manage? Weston shore? Netley Abbey?

Haha you know me too well , we went down to Netley Abbey, chucked the anchor over and had some lunch, didn't have that long but just wanted to get out.

Handled ok, bit rocky when the ferry's went past but got up to about 15 knots, moves pretty well actually and seems easy to handle

One thing I found was that the forward gear throttle is quite stiff, it's fine at first but gets stiffer when you want to go over about 6 knots, there is a throttle friction control knob but turning it didn't seem to do anything so will have to get it off and have a look at some point soon

Maybe @GPSguruor @suzook12 may have some advice on that?

What's the history of the boat and how long since it was on the water last? I'm wondering whether the throttle cable has corroded and is binding up inside the sheath. If so, the best cure would be cable replacement but you might get away with plenty of lube and regular use.

Could something as simple as blasting a fuck ton of wd40 in there and into the cables help?

Yeah my first thought was something similar, I usually use a silicone spray grease.

After a search today online most people do say not to lube the wrong parts as this can cause more issues so I'm going to have to watch a tutorial I think

It was used right up till the day I picked it up but as it was so cheap I was keen to view it running and then just take it away before he realised it was a steal lol.

My gut instinct is that it's gunked up so may just spray away and see what happens.

The throttle while in neutral is free and smooth as is reverse, its literally just when you accelerate forward so I'm wondering if it could be the linkage.

I just dont want to start taking things apart and making it worse

Silicone may get gummy over time. If you're set on lube, perhaps try some penetrating spray first to see if that frees it off. If it does improve the throttle travel it will at least tell you that corrosion is the issue. If that's the case I'd be tempted to replace the cable. Corrosion will mean the cable strands have weakened and you don't want it to let you down at sea.

Look on the bright side, there’s probably some poor bugger spitting bullets with his new boat in Plymouth at the moment after finding out he’s just been sold a wrongun 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

You're such a tool... 🔧🔧

First thing to do is disconnect the throttle cable from the engine and ensure that the engine throttle linkage is free.

Then operate the throttle with it disconnected to see if it is still stiff, if yes, then carefully inspect the cable run for cable damage, kinks, and sharp bends.

It could be the side remote causing the issue, but that is very unusual, to test it, disconnect the throttle cable at the remote and then operate the throttle to check for stiffness. Some side remotes are PITA to pull apart, and you need six pairs of hands for reassembly.

It is really a matter of elimination, however, if you identify the cable as stiff, then don't mess about, just replace it.

Sounds like a good idea, there's loads of YouTube stuff so will have a crack and report back,

Thanks again

Great thank you, I will follow that advice and let you know the results, thanks again and to everyone for being so helpful 👍

As it moves freely in everything except forward, sounds like a linkage issue, the throttle usually cant fully open until it's in gear tho, so could be last part of the cable.

Some cables are teflon coated, and you should never spray those as the coating swells making any issue worse....... I know this from experience!!

Ah yeah this is what I was reading, having said that the engine is 1970's so god knows how old the steering system is.

From what I see you should just grease the remote module first and see what a difference it makes

I did not want to start a new "Microplus 461 thread" as i think the specialists already gathered here. I am looking at one tomorrow and may take it with me as a new owner. It will only stay with me for a period of transition till i find my dream boat :'D.
What do i have to look at specifically for when checking a Microplus 461?

Any flaws?
