Malc
I'm not much of a one for poetry and such but sometimes the wordsmiths get it right. "In the offing the sea and the sky were welded together without a joint, and in the luminous space the tanned sails of the barges drifting up with the tide seemed to stand still in red clusters of canvas sharply peaked, with gleams of varnished sprits. A haze rested on the low shores that ran out to sea in vanishing flatness." Another is This gem but a bit long to copy and paste, do you have any? Andy135
Good topic for a post @Malc. Likewise I'm not much into poetry but one that stuck with me from my GCSE English days is Rime of the Ancient Mariner. We studied the original text (here: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/43997/the-rime-of-the-ancient-mariner-text-of-1834) and I found it quite thought-provoking as a spotty ginger teenager. Here's a paragraph I like: The harbour-bay was clear as glass, So smoothly it was strewn! And on the bay the moonlight lay, And the shadow of the Moon. Saintly Fish
I forget the author, but this one always stuck with me... "Oh come with me, To the rolling sea, While the weather's calm and still. And we'll have some fun and laughter with The Adventures of Portland Bill." Malc
Saintly Fish
And this one... Cockleshell Bay is a town near the sea, With sunshine and seagulls that screech. There are shops that sell ices and buckets and spades, So that children can play on the beach. There are white painted houses along the sea front, Where folk come for a quiet holiday. Where the sky is bright and the winds are light, And two children stay. So meet, Robin and Rosie of Cockleshell Bay.
Saintly Fish
But this is the absolute master... Oh, I'm Popeye the Sailor Man, I'm Popeye the Sailor Man. I'm strong to the finich Cause I eats me spinach. I'm Popeye the Sailor Man. I'm one tough Gazookus Which hates all Palookas Wot ain't on the up and square. I biffs 'em and buffs 'em And always out roughs 'em But none of 'em gets nowhere. If anyone dares to risk my "Fisk", It's "Boff" an' it's "Wham" un'erstan'? So keep "Good Be-hav-or" That's your one life saver With Popeye the Sailor Man. I'm Popeye the Sailor Man, I'm Popeye the Sailor Man. I'm strong to the finich Cause I eats me spinach.
