Popular Post fishybuisness Posted September 14, 2021 Popular Post Posted September 14, 2021 So the last week i have been chasing a few targets from the beach and have noticed the mack have come in close in better numbers. This really has switched on the fishing apart from the cod from the shore! Targets have been. Thornbacks and undulates and also cheeky rod out for a cod if one was to pass. Good tides and a bit of swell on the shingle fri night was promising. There was no cod but i achieved my target after minutes of being asked what my target was from a friend that met me on the beach, you really couldn’t make it up! Shane comes down from wiltshire and is not a newbie to fishing and comes from the ascension islands. He seams to have this magic aura about him especially when hes reeling in his beachcaster with an egg beater upside down. When you see this you will know!! well we had some tidy fish and i managed my last 2 of the grand slam that night and shane had a tidy session aswell! so sat we checked the weather and another friend (martin) of mine wanted to see whats out on the deeper wrecks south south east of torbay. The weather was glorious calm and flat to the point where we could see massive shoals of bait fry being chased all over by macks and then the dolphins! I have never seen dolphins so massive. It took a steady 1 1/2 to reach destination and fishing 70+ meters of water with very very good sign on the wreck. In fact im not mentioning the wreck on here as i dont want the commi boys on it. We predominantly fished jigs and they would not even get to the bottom it was relentless with bass and really good sized ones at that. The tide was pulling a steady 1.8 knts in full flow and due to the sounder the fish were very high up. So atleast 15-20m above the wreck. Martin on the first drop sunk into a 74cm and me with a 62 we just looked at each other knowing we found the end of the rainbow. The pollock were giving a good fight and especially on the lighter spj rods. I lost a couple of fish using what i thought was 30lb line but after getting home and testing it was actually breaking at 11lb. After loosing a few jigs i changed the reel to the new finn nor jigging special only to find that a brg had notched up. Must have not been washed out properly from last time and this was so frustrating especially when the fishing was going off. Ive recommend line to others and now im biting my tongue as my recommendation if now flawed. From now on i will be stress testing line before i use it! the jigs that we found to be working the best were anything chrome or silver and probably the best one all round was the pink and blue bumblebee. The majorcraft slow fall uv was the other option and the sidewinder odin orange was a pollock killer. I have never known bass and very good numbers of them to be so comfortable in 70m of water. When using light gear and being played slowly aided there return. with only a couple blowing their bladders they still went back quite ferociously. We had some runs that would only resemble big big brutes with very slow long pulls of line peeling off reels and big strong movements some we just could not control. One of the better fish that day gave such a fight it must of come up and down 3-4 times. I didnt get much footage but i did take a few pics of marty and one or two of his catches just because we were so tuned into the fishing with short fast drifts. One thing to note and wondering if anyone else has noticed, some of the bass are very oddly shaped. One was looking like a bream only to be confirmed that another friend later on that day sent me a pic of a 7lb bass at 40cm ??? we cruised home in a timely fashion quite content with ourselves. My mate watched me wash the boat down so I accidentally kept soaking him with the hose. I think he was too tired to realise his work was not done! really hoping for a bit of weather to get out again asap Dave out. suzook12, GPSguru, Andy135 and 3 others 6 Quote

Well played👍 It was just a really nice weekend as a whole. Its nice when things work out but im now thinking maybe a bit more footage would have been good. Maybe i should set up a go pro and make a channel and ….. no that would spoil the fun Quote
GPSguru Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 (edited) The wrecks at 20 - 40 miles out have been stuffed with Bass for at least the last 3 weeks. I was going out on a friends boat 2weeks ago, but had to decline at the last minute due to a covid scare. He came in early, they went to 8 different wrecks after Pollock / Ling and couldn't get past the Bass, all of which were a decent size. Edited September 14, 2021 by GPSguru fishybuisness 1 Quote

I bought a Go Pro last January and have used it maybe a couple of times on fishing trips throughout the year - I find it gets in the way of enjoying the moment, or enjoying the day as a whole if I have to worry about framing the shots etc. My intent was not to start a channel rather to take some interesting videos for my own pleasure, but it's just not as fun as being "in the moment" with crew celebrating a fantastic dogfish catch. fishybuisness 1 Quote

Mine is always mounted on the top of the A frame, I religiously mount it every time before I leave, however, the 7 is well known for its 'wake up' bugs and because of that I tend not to use it too much because of the faff, which gets in the way of the fishing. fishybuisness 1 Quote

Theres a fix for that buddy i know it sounds silly but if you put it in the freezer until frozen the firmware reboots fresh and the problem normally goes away. Its something to do with the pic chips inside GPSguru 1 Quote
