LostPiker
I'd like to get a manual for my outboard so I have a vague idea of what is going on with it. Runs great now but would like to know where to check what etc. Its a Yamaha 60hp 2 stroke, it has a plate on it with 1998 which I assume is year of manufacture? Nominal power 44.1kw, Mass 96-106kg, Model 99 and 6H2-84. I've googled those numbers and not come up with much. Can anyone point me in the right direction? thanks Adam
Andy135
Try here: https://yamahaoutboards.com/en-us/home/owner-resources/all/owners-manuals Edit: actually, scratch that - it only goes back as far as 2006. Hold on - will see what else I can find.
Andy135
Can you post a pic of your serial number plate and of the outboard itself?

suzook12
Is it a 3 cylinder or 2 cylinder? I'm on the lookout as well for a 2 cylinder manual, the 3's are plentiful and are also badged as mercury/mariner

Andy135
Sorry Adam. I'm drawing a blank on this. I've got as far as it being a 60F 6H2 engine of some description but your serial plate doesn't match any of the usual Yamaha configurations online. They usually have the serial number in the uppermost white box. I can't work out whether the 1998 is a year or a 4 digit serial number. Have a look here for an example: https://www.perfprotech.com/blog/yamaha-outboards/yamaha-outboard-serial-number-location-and-model-identification You could also spend some time going through the permutations on the Yamaha publications site here: https://www.yamahapubs.com/. I had a quick look and they list three different types of 2 stroke 60hp outboard model made in 1998, none of which seem to relate to a 60F engine. Not sure if any of them matches your engine though. suzook12
Sometimes you can nail a yamaha down by the cast numbers, but doesn't always help as different models can use the same casting....

You would also know the year was 86, and you would also know that Mayfair and Escort was where it was at, and maybe Fiesta at a push...... Kinda makes ya wonder why ford named cars after porno mags eh? I did find a 6E9 manual online when I wasw doing mine, will see if its on the "works" computer

I remember something about the 6E9, perhaps it was the other way around and Mariner used the 6E9 in some of their outboards .............
