Andy135
Just now, jonnyswamp said: Does it have a narrow spool? Yes. The J part of the model name indicates the narrow jigging spool. The regular SX reel (of which I also have one in LHW) has a slightly wider spool. jonnyswamp

The Avet versions prior to the G2 didn't have the glide plate, so it seems that they're moving back to that design (infinitely adjustable drag instead of 20 or so glide plate notches). Practically speaking the glide plate is cosmetic rather than functional in my view. jonnyswamp
Andy135
Also, for SPJ I'd not bother with the Magic Cast option, which is basically an over-run brake. It will inhibit the action of a falling jig if it's not able to fall freely.

If so what sort of money are they Speed wise it is fine, but the reel is way too big. For SPJ you need a narrow spool and really small reel, but with a gear ratio of at least 6:1. I use the Maxel Rage 25 reels. These are available in both RH and LH ( about £325 each).

Shite, wish I'd waited for your reply It has a narrow spool though and I assumed it was 6-1 on high speed and 4-1 on low ? I will check later and depending on what I find, may cancel it Edit It's 6.3-1 on high and 3.8-1 on low I'll wait for it to arrive and see if the size is a problem Edited February 6, 2022 by jonnyswamp

The maxel’s are 6.2:1 and perfect for the job. The ideal reel size is ‘palm sized’ I have 3 of the maxels, one on each SPJ rod.
