Best boat rods

Lets hear it for the best boat rods for different line classes, I'll kick off with a couple:

12lb, Daiwa Kensaki 12-20lb (original, all black) rod is only about 10lb class but extremely light and beautiful action

12-25lb, Daiwa Kensaki (blue), light, sensitive and surprisingly powerfull, really does work as a 12lb or 20lb+ rod

Daiwa Aird 10'6" interline 10-30lb, oddball but great.  Jigging and feathering made easy.  No way it's 30lb, more 8-12, but large fish hoop it right over and it's like playing them on a spring, just keep on finding more power in the butt

Agree about the gold black Kenzaki. Bit floppy for my taste.

Ugly stick GX2 are good.

Ive ordered x2 Shimano Vengeance Slim. £95 delivered. I’ve got the 6-12 for breaming and bass so ordered the 12-20 as well. Lovely tippy action.

Uptide rods: Team Daiwa Uptude. Best ever made.

Abu Suverean lovely too.

I also have a twin power 12-20. Poky rod. Got a thing for shimano rods and old Daiwas. Not the newer stuff....

Ive got 8-12 and a 18-25 zziplex Uk hooks. Both real nice and punch above their weight. I also love my daiwa team tdx 20-30. Ive another uk hooks zziplex uptider. A 20-30 gx2 and a couple of others I can’t remember. Also I have three 3 piece travel rods.
a shimano, a steel power and a penn squadron.

For me, it has to be the original Kenzaki braid rods, although I have a couple of Super Kenzaki 6 -15 rods on order, but delivery is not expected until mid Jan at the earliest.

However, in the cheaper category you always get the odd surprise rod and for me that was the Tronixpro Aphex boat 8.5 -15 .......... a superb rod that really delivered beyond expectations. Unfortunately is no longer made, but that is only due to name 'Aphex' being a close resemblance to a similar named brand. George at Tronix is having the same blank remanufactured for another rod launch in the spring ...............

When the skinny little rods that looked like kids outfits first came out they flooded the markets to the point these are all you tend to see on boats these days. Most have names which are hard to keep up with. The likes of jigging master, carpenter, black hole, ripple fisher, ocean legacy etc etc have taken over the rod world by storm. I still get the odd Shimano and Daiwa rod but not many.

Unfortunately the choice is just so big these days its become a nightmare. This is the kind of thing you are faced with here when walking into a tackle store!!!.. this store has over 10,000 rods on offer and doesn't really specialise in any of those names I mentioned above.

Christ that just looks mental. How the hell do the staff keep up with their product knowledge? I’m guessing they don’t. Well maybe on the most popular brands and models, but no way could anybody know all those specs and uses. Let along how well they individually perform.

They have a fair amount of staff, not quite sure how many but he music store I took my son to last week has increased their staff from 45 to over 70 since Covid and their sales have increased by huge amounts. When ever Ive been into that particular store there have been staff who specialise in each section, the game fishing section had two staff members and is only a small section upstairs where the picture is taken from. This is part of the tackle store team but there are plenty of general and part time staff that aren't in this list https://www.motackle.com.au/our-team  They do know their stuff and give fantastic advice and service, problem is you are so overwhelmed you forget what you went into unless you take a list!!!!...Tackle stores are struggling to keep up with demand this year.

Rods a pretty much a personal choice, but yes, the Aphex was popular.

I’m not asking if popular, you mentioned that they were good. So I’m asking in your opinion how good? Tronix are at the lower market end so, it’s nice if a cheaper gem is about to rival say the ugly stik

Yes, IMHO they are good and punch well above their price. Very similar action as the Kenzaki.

Greys GR75S 12-20

Superb rod and good value tipping in at sub £100. Best rod I've used in that line class

The GR75S Uptide is also a good rod and comes with 2 tips, heavy and light, yet I still slightly prefer my ancient shimano which I bought off ebay for about a fiver....... Maybe coz its been my main rod for 10+ years. Don't get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the greys....

Don’t you think it’s funny how we all have a “go to rod and reel” which if we are honest is probably all the rod and reel we would need for UK salt water fishing, sharking aside. But still like a bunch of magpies we have to collect the next shiny thing and hang it somewhere. Taking it out every now and again to air it and justify the purchase.
I came across a couple of rods this weekend that I had forgotten all about. I tucked them back for next time.

To be honest, I have all the reels I currently need, course fishing catered for by my long suffering shimano match3 and gtm 4010, pair of baitrunners (shimano of course) and a pin.....  For sea I have a TLD 20, a pair of charter specials, and a TR200G, beach is covered with ABU 6500's x 3 and s TSM2

Any others I buy are for the lad

I wouldn't swap my x10 shimanos for anything..... Oh forgot I have a shimano 7000 somewhere for spod

Likewise my Abu's.......

Cool 😎

Ive always had 2nd hand gear so getting some new rods is a new experience.... just hope someone keeps her mitts of them 😬😬😬

I used to go nose up at the thought of second hand kit but I have picked up a few bargains, it’s nice to save a couple of quid
