Andy135
@Odyssey's Jig Heads thread got me thinking. Does anyone fish with lures (hard/soft/jig-head etc) that are cast & retrieved from their tubs? As boat anglers we seem to be preoccupied with vertical fishing but I reckon there's more to fishing with lures than just "up & down". I've done it a few times from Apache, with some reasonable success on bass around the Solent Forts, the Blocks etc. Surface lures can be fun, seeing a bass hit your Patchinko off the top. I use my regular shore lure rods and lures - just need a bit of cautiousness when casting if there are others on the boat. Anyone else tried it? jonnyswamp
If I fished in clear water I would give it a go, but the upper reaches of the BC is the colour of coffee so I would think it would be like pissing in the wind Planning on a few more trips down towards Ilfracombe way this year, so may go close in to the cliffs and give it a go

Odyssey
There is a guy in west wales, Jimmy Lemon. He does a lot of lure trips for bass and pollack. Does really well, runs charter trips too. A nice centre console boat, getting up close to cliffs and islands looks great fun 🙂 I’ve seen a few guys doing this on SIBS too. I’d tempted with a kayak to do this, a 30ft boat like mine is a bit restrictive for this kind of fishing 🤣
JDP
I do heaps of it here but I also did a fair amount in the UK too. The shallows of warden ledge and casting back towards the rocks between Totland and Alum Bay were always productive for me. Dropping to lines 10lb or less will greatly improve casting range when using light hard bodies or plastics.

Interestingly IIRC, Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden is also a keen lure angler and co owner of the BIF boat ............. Odyssey
New Quay and around west wales is well suited for this kind of fishing. Too specialised for me.... I prefer the big open space than close quarter stuff. However, I imagine must be a real adrenaline rush catching bass off the top water on reefs etc.... May have to book myself a half day trip in the summer to give it a go 🙂

By all accounts, is also a pretty good shot, and was asked to fence for England (olympics comes to mind but cant recall 100%) but turned it down due to clashing with tour dates..... And by fencing I'm not saying he's handy at erecting post and rail, or offloading stolen goods...... GPSguru and Geoff 1
