No, hold the rod with your strongest arm (the right) use your weaker arm (the left) to do the easier work!!

Crankbaits or texas rig over shallow water or kelp beds, RH rod (trigger), deep water or casting LH on rod. 

The former because you are casting and retrieving regularly the latter just because.

I am left handed, but definitely you hold rod in left and crank with right, unless it is a coffee grinder, then hold rod in right and crank with left.

TBH, I don't much like FS reels for general boat fishing, but ok for spinning.
