Andy135
I'm with Fisty on this one. That Antares looks spot on for some winter whiting and dogfish dangling south of the Isle of Wight. Stay warm and scoff bacon rolls whilst lounging on candy-striped cushions in the cabin. What's not to like?? What's not to like?? What’s not to like? I’ll tell you what’s not to like shall I! Fish blood and guts all over the candy striped cushions and the fact that it’s a 30’ boat that fishes two rods. JonC
@Andy135 I noticed that you didn’t opt for a gin palace with fluffy cushions. Why was that?

As a 100% fishing boat then no, now your being daft. @Gordmac however is after a boat that he can use for, cruising, entertaining AND fishing. This boat does it all. And is plenty big enough and comfy enough for 3-4 to fish on.

JonC
From this picture it looks like there’s about 5’ of gunwale to fish along either side As I said in my opening statement to the house, it’s a beautiful boat, but not a fishing boat. Andy135
Don't forget you can get some rod holders on those rails on the flybridge. Probably another four up front. Fish 6 easy, maybe even 8.

There’s plenty of space up on the bow, get a suction pad bait board stuck on the windscreen. Saintly Fish
Gordmac
The 9.80 is a nice boat but getting a bit big. Big boat, big fuel bill! From figures I have seen 2.7-3l/m. As I said, I don't have much income so running costs come from capital, one of those would need to be a fair bit cheaper to be affordable. Normally there would only be two or three fishing a rod each, I don't need space for six rods! I appreciate the input (well except the fancy rounders input!), Keep it up! So yes a bigger boat but slightly lighter for the size equivalent. Fuel burn is obviously down to what engine is fitted and how heavy your throttle arm is on the lever. If it’s too big still then maybe consider the Antares 9 instead. here you go.. https://www.yachtworld.co.uk/boats/2005/beneteau-antares-9-series-3529421/?utm_source=newsnow&utm_medium=paid-feed&utm_campaign=rubrikk_group or even https://www.boatclassified.co.uk/listings/jeanneau-merry-fisher-925/

I get what you’re saying about the running costs building up, but I would think fuel is only a part of it, I spend at least £1000 on servicing a little 21’ boat each year- I dare say it would triple for that size boat, and that’s basics. There was a guy who used to post on another site who budgeted about £10k per season I think for a boat in that size area, although a lot of that was spent servicing his legs. It’ll be interesting to see how swapping Butler out for Foakes this week, I think it’s the first specialist wicket keeper that’s been selected since Jack Russel. He was so good he had a dog breed named after him- an honour normally reserved for royalty. Foakes can bat though so hopefully he can support the specialist batsmen who he’s batting with. What’s your thoughts on it? I know you’re excited.

Talking sh1t again Jon? Unless the boat has twin engines you’ll get no where near triple the cost. Double maybe.
Saintly Fish
A little closer to home..... what you save on fuel you could put toWard the servicing... https://www.rightboat.com/gb/boats-for-sale/bayliner/288-flybridge/rb335083 money left over... https://www.rightboat.com/gb/boats-for-sale/beneteau/antares-9/rb343123 or https://www.rightboat.com/gb/boats-for-sale/nimbus/31-c-cd58f8c2-f61b-4499-a3c7-4c1d03bca161/rb237785

Double maybe. I’m considering lift out wash down etc, I pay about £400 to be lifted, proped on the hard and dropped back in. I would think that would double for a boat well over twice the size? I spent £650 on a timing belt service, ok that’s every 5 years so average that out over that period per engine,£150 on routine engine service, £ 60 on anodes , anti foul etc- you know better than most of us what it all costs. That’s without fixing any big holes that appear!
