Anti foul after a season

Recommended Posts

I had the boat lifted today and went down to take a look at the hull before it was jet washed off. Not too bad at all I think, especially as I never had a mid season lift and wash.
just a layer of slime below the water line where the sun doesn’t reach, no barnacles on treated area.

The only barnacles were on the metal and plastics that were not anti fouled.

The only weed growth was just on the water line and on the transducers.

Really not too bad at all I reckon.
Question, I’ve never removed a prop before, is it just the nut that needs loosening off then slide the whole thing off ?? Is it a reversed thread?

On my prop there is a tab washer, like on wheel bearings. You need to hit that flat to let the nut turn. There is a woodruff key that holds the prop in position.
You will need a puller, as it hasn’t been off in a while.

What’s  one of those and where do I get one? Do they come in different sizes? Can I use a wedge and a hammer?

You can smash the granny out of it if you like but risk damaging cutlass bearing, stern gland, shaft, prop tube or even gearbox.
Don’t make me go all BK on you here!

It will get most props off. Once you have it under a massive load then give your prop a tap with a lump hammer and a bit of wood as a cushion. Leave the nut on a turn or you will have to walk down the boat yard to pick the prop up.

These are the best thing for polishing your prop that I’ve found. Don’t go mental on it though.
