Saintly Fish
Ok so another problem has arisen on Tarlach Too, one that could potentially eat up a good chunk of my season. I have a bleeding bow thruster tube. A small crack around the tube has been bleeding salt water gradually for a while since I had her lifted two weeks ago. I thought it would dry up but it hasn’t and shows no sign of slowing. so, I’ve had a specialist look at it today and it seems that the crack (which was filled supposedly 18 months ago) has been drawing in water and through capillary action worked about 4-5 inches along the hull. This has to be ground out and checked to find the extent of the damage. Then on the keel there is an old hole where the prop guard used to attach. This again was filled but is also bleeding, so a fair amount of water could still be present. The bow thruster surprisingly is not the worst of the two. He reckons the keel could be a 4 month summer lay up, strip back and allow the hot weather to dry it out. FFS Geoff and Andy135
Odyssey
Ouch Is there no way they can hot vac the water out? I’ve heard about it being done for osmosis treatments but no experience of it Edited January 14, 2021 by Odyssey

Geoff
Sorry to hear of your problems Neil. I do hope that you will be able to get it sorted out fairly soon. Fingers crossed that it does not take too long or cost a fortune. Geoff. Saintly Fish
Andy135
Bum. Definitely not good news. Sorry to hear. Wonder if the water ingress has been going on for long enough that it might account for some of your list?

It’s lucky I noticed it before another season went on. No signs of blistering so I’m hoping for the best.

Nuffink But a submerged log or any heavy floating debris just under the water could have done it. or its just a stress crack from the thruster tunnel?? Ill never know.. I won’t know the extent for a few days so I’ll try not to stress it too much until then. If I have to go through insurance I will but I’d rather not. GPSguru
Pretty grim find there .......... as it has happened in two places, then I would suspect either poor filler or poor workmanship What is the estimated wallet damage in £K ? That damage looks to be too far away from the BT to be associated with it. I have fitted one before and in reality you bore a big hole and glass the tube into place from both sides and it ends up stronger than the hull itself. I am thinking that is an old collision injury that has come back to haunt due to a poor fix..............

Saintly Fish
I think my good mate @GPSguru is probably Bob on. There is spider grazing on the port side of the super structure. I’ve known about this since purchase. It’s nothing severe just a bit of cosmetic damage. It’s quite possible that the crack on the tube happened then and wasn’t repaired very well. And when I say crack I’m mean it is a hair line crack not a gapping hole. And it’s only about 2cm in length. But over time and pressure the water has entered.
